On August 5, Arkham, the blockchain intelligence platform known for entity-labeled onchain data, added support for Coinbase's x402 standard to the Arkham API. AI agents can now pay for that data with USDC at the moment of each request, without a human manually running the query.

Highlights#

Pay per call. The Arkham API covers wallet flows, whale movements, and smart-money tracking, and requests can now settle in USDC on Base through the CDP Facilitator. Trade coverage of the launch notes the implementation also covers Solana.

Built for trading agents. Arkham's walkthrough pairs a Coinbase Agentic Wallet with its API: a trader asks an agent to watch the largest holders of a token, flag accumulation or distribution, and monitor big transactions as they happen. The agent fetches and pays for the data on its own, turning raw onchain activity into trading intelligence.

Issuer endorsement. Kevin Leffew, AI go-to-market lead at Coinbase, called Arkham exactly the kind of high-value data API x402 was built for, and framed the move as a step toward an internet where agents autonomously discover, purchase, and use the data they need. The standard itself is now governed by the Linux Foundation.

Adoption is not automatic. The Crypto Times raises open questions: x402 depends on wallet support and facilitator availability, and per-request pricing can add up for high-frequency API usage.

Why it matters#

Data is shaping up to be the first commodity agents buy at machine speed, settled per call in stablecoins. As per-call prices climb for high-value intelligence, the trust layer has to keep pace: proof that the data delivered matches what was paid for, and recourse when it does not.
