Constructor, a product discovery platform for retailers, introduced Agentic Checkout on Monday (Oct. 5), a Stripe-integrated offering that lets both human shoppers and AI agents find and buy products inside a single agent conversation. The core pitch is removing the handoff: until now, agentic shopping tools mostly stopped at discovery and pushed buyers back into a conventional, disconnected checkout flow to complete the purchase.

Highlights#

  • The release positions the gap between discovery and payment as the main leak in agentic retail. Shoppers can ask questions, get personalized recommendations, and refine choices on retail sites and apps, then check out without leaving the agent experience.
  • Constructor says it is the first to offer Stripe-powered checkout directly within an onsite shopping agent, available worldwide, with payment via the Link by Stripe digital wallet or other payment methods.
  • CEO and co-founder Eli Finkelshteyn frames the split as a division of labor: Constructor handles discovery, Stripe handles payment infrastructure, and agentic commerce only delivers on its promise when both halves are best-in-class.
  • PYMNTS Intelligence data cited in the report: 23% of consumers now begin retail buying research with AI, and 59% of AI shoppers research on AI what they used to seek on Amazon. Karen Webster's take: consumers have always searched in one place and bought in another, and swapping search boxes is low-risk for them.

Why it matters#

The hard part of agent commerce is no longer finding products; it is settling the transaction at the moment of intent. Closing the loop inside one interface raises the volume of machine-completed purchases, which in turn raises the stakes for verifiable counterparty reputation and escrowed settlement when neither side of the checkout is human.
