The first conference devoted entirely to agentic commerce and payments convenes in Stockholm on September 15, and its agenda says a lot about where the sector actually stands. Forkast's preview of the Agentic Commerce & Payments Summit 2026 notes that organizers have skipped the usual AI shopping demos and concentrated sessions on trust, identity, fraud, and the plumbing of embedded finance.

Highlights#

  • Per The Paypers, this is the first summit dedicated solely to the agentic commerce and payments intersection. The theme is payment control and liability, the questions that decide whether autonomous agents can transact at all.
  • Forkast flags a three-way standards collision now underway: Coinbase's x402, the UCP spec, and Mastercard's AP4M multi-rail protocol are all competing to become the settlement layer for machine-initiated purchases.
  • Stockholm is a deliberate venue. The city is home to Klarna and Tink, plus more than 100 banks and 400 fintechs, which makes it a working laboratory for the open-banking frameworks the summit wants to standardize.
  • The numbers behind the sober agenda: Juniper Research projects $1.5 trillion in agentic commerce spend by 2030 and 120 billion transactions by 2031, yet Forkast puts current genuine commercial volume at roughly $28,000 per day. Of more than 200 million x402 transactions logged, over 95% are protocol signaling rather than real purchases.
  • A Product.ai survey from April 2026 found only 14% of consumers trust AI to execute purchases on their behalf, and 86% still verify recommendations before buying anything.

Why it matters#

The gap between trillion-dollar projections and $28,000 a day is a trust gap, not a technology gap. Someone has to answer who eats the loss when an autonomous purchase goes wrong, and escrow plus portable on-chain reputation are the two mechanisms that assign that liability without a human approving every transaction.
