On September 8, Meta introduced Muse, a personal AI agent that runs on a dedicated secure virtual machine and does real work inside a person's accounts: email, calendar, shopping, travel. The same day, Stripe announced that Muse ships with Link's wallet for agents built in, making Meta's consumer agent one of the largest deployments yet of checkout infrastructure designed for autonomous buyers.

Highlights#

  • Muse works through a chat interface in its own app or inside WhatsApp, powered by Meta's Muse Spark model. It browses, fills forms, negotiates, and keeps working after the app closes, returning only when it needs approval, such as before sending an email or making a purchase.
  • At the more than 1 million businesses that accept Link, Muse checks out instantly with a US consumer's saved payment method. Everywhere else, Link issues the agent a single-use virtual card scoped to the approved purchase. The agent never sees underlying card details.
  • Every purchase requires the consumer to approve the transaction total directly in the chat interface.
  • A separate Sentinel agent, kept apart from Muse at the system level, screens every internet-bound action Muse attempts, deciding whether it is allowed, blocked, or escalated to the person for permission.
  • Stripe says Link's agent wallet already powers payments for Grok Bot and Instinct, and that Link has more than 300 million users globally.

Why it matters#

Muse puts the approval question front and center: a human confirms the total in chat, and payment credentials stay out of the agent's reach. That is the same trust boundary escrow and reputation systems draw for agent-to-agent deals, now arriving in a consumer product with a billion-user distribution channel behind it.
