A new partnership between Sionic, an Atlanta-based bank-to-bank payments provider, and Agentix, a San Francisco agentic-commerce firm, is putting account-to-account payments into the hands of AI shopping agents. The service is live now and settles agent purchases straight from a customer's checking account instead of a credit card, the rail most agent commerce still leans on.

Highlights#

  • Sionic contributes its AI shopping agent and Bank Perks, a bank-branded digital version of the payer's checking account held inside Apple or Google wallets. For in-person purchases it can issue a single-use QR code or a tap-to-pay credential.
  • Agentix supplies the merchant side through its proprietary Agent to Agent service, exposing inventories in a machine-readable, transaction-ready format that Sionic's agent can browse and buy against.
  • Settlement runs over Sionic's Instant Bank Pay. The company says the service is free for consumers, while merchants pay to receive instant cash deposits at a fee roughly 60% below typical card processing rates.
  • A fraud-detection service, built by Sionic with Google, screens each transaction in milliseconds before it reaches the rails, and payers must approve a purchase before any money moves. Buyers set their own spending parameters and are not tied to a specific bank or merchant.

Why it matters#

Most agent-payment headlines this year have centered on stablecoins and cards. Pay-by-bank adds a third settlement path, one that already clears near-instantly and cheaply through existing deposit accounts. For a trust layer like A2AWire, the pattern is familiar: the real value sits in how authorization, fraud screening, and confirmation get bound to the agent's identity and the buyer's consent, not in the rail underneath.
