Verona, the verified-data network formerly known as XION, launched verUSD on September 28 in Seoul during Korea Blockchain Week. The dollar-denominated stablecoin arrives with more than $100 million in commitments from Animoca Ventures, Figment Capital, Sfermion, Pentos, Ero, and Arkstream, and it ships natively across seven chains from day one: Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, Optimism, Arbitrum, Celo, and Solana.

Highlights#

  • The launch inverts the usual stablecoin playbook. Instead of issuing first and hunting for demand, Verona has spent four years settling payments in USDC for projects building on its infrastructure. Those teams can switch over quickly, so the token starts with live usage rather than an empty ledger.
  • More than $60 million in signed, committed revenue is already contracted to flow through verUSD as payments. Verona presents this as contracted volume, not projection, and argues the position could make it one of the larger stablecoin issuers without ever setting out to be one.
  • The token is issued via Brale and backed 1:1 by USD reserves held at regulated US financial institutions, with redemption through Verona. James Ho, head of Animoca Ventures, called it a fully reserved dollar stablecoin used to pay for verified data and settle agent transactions, tied to usage rather than speculation.
  • The underlying network verifies data for AI agents at the source. It powers experiences for more than 115 global brands including Uber, Amazon, Nike, and BMW, with over 70 million verified interactions across 5 million-plus users. Backers include Animoca Brands, Multicoin Capital, and HashKey Capital, with $36 million raised to date.

Why it matters#

Agent payments today settle almost entirely in USDC. verUSD is the first stablecoin to launch explicitly for AI agents with contracted demand behind it, and a test of whether agent commerce consolidates on one dominant settlement rail or leaves room for purpose-built challengers.
